Umno support for PN: I'm not good at maths, says Ku Li

Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, who is pushing for a vote of no confidence in Parliament, gave an indication that Umno support for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's government may not be 100 percent.

Asked about the percentage of Umno support for Perikatan Nasional, the veteran politician who served eight years as Finance Minister from 1976 to 1984 replied: "I'm not good at maths."

Razaleigh said this when met after a BN MPs meeting at the Putra World Trade Centre. The meeting lasted for almost three hours.

This is after the Yang di-Pertuan Agong rejected the cabinet's bid to have an emergency declaration yesterday.

Razaleigh said much was discussed at the meeting, and that Umno will take this up with its supreme council tonight.

The Umno veteran has been lobbying for a motion of no-confidence against Muhyiddin to be debated in Parliament.

He also said that seeking an emergency declaration meant Muhyiddin had lost the majority support.

The prime minister losing support could lead to snap elections if no other leader can prove they have the numbers to form a government.

Previously, BN secretary-general Annuar Musa had said that an emergency was necessary to avoid snap elections amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Agong, in his decree yesterday, called on MPs to stop politicking to destabilise the government. - Mkini
