High Court sets Dec 14 for contempt proceedings against Lokman Adam

The Kuala Lumpur High Court has set Dec 14 for hearing of the merits of the Attorney-General's (AG) contempt application against former Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam.

Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah today set the tentative High Court hearing date, pending the outcome of Lokman's appeal at the Federal Court on Nov 26.

Lokman is appealing against the Court of Appeal's ruling on May 13 which dismissed his appeal to set aside the High Court leave granted to the AG to commence committal proceedings against him.

The contempt proceedings were over the alleged acts of intimidation against Amhari Efendi Nazaruddin, a key witness in former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak's RM2.28 billion 1MDB corruption trial.

Amhari Efendi used to be the former premier's special officer.

During mention of the contempt application before Sequerah this afternoon, DPP Mohamad Mustaffa P Kunyalam informed the High Court that Lokman's appeal is set for hearing at the Federal Court on Nov 26.

The DPP then applied for the main contempt application against Lokman to be set for hearing before the High Court.

Sequerah then fixed a tentative High Court hearing date on Dec 14, subject to the outcome of Lokman's appeal at the apex court on Nov 26.

Defence counsel Wan Aizuddin Wan Mohammed appeared for Lokman during the High Court matter.

On Jan 14, Sequerah dismissed Lokman's bid to set aside the leave obtained by the AG to proceed with the contempt application against him (Lokman).

On Oct 22 last year, Sequerah granted leave to the then AG, Tommy Thomas, to initiate committal proceedings against Lokman over alleged contemptuous acts purportedly committed on two occasions on Sept 25, 2019.

One of the alleged contemptuous acts were purported to be committed on Sept 25 last year, whereby Lokman in a video interview, was alleged to have uttered words constituting an express or implied threat against Amhari Efendi.

It was also claimed that on the same day, Lokman lodged a police report against Amhari Efendi. - Mkini
