The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) wants warring political parties to observe a ceasefire in view of the Covid-19 outbreak.
It's pro-tem president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman it was time for Malaysia to hit the pause button and not engage in any power grabs.
He also urged all political factions to avoid any parliamentary or state election for now.
"It is time for us to put Malaysia's interest first, not our own personal interest.
"This is the time for us to unite and service Malaysia," he said in a video - which was intentionally paused in the end - posted onto his social media accounts.
Malaysia is currently grappling with its highest number of active Covid-19 cases on record, with 2,936 people being treated as of noon yesterday.
The number of new active cases is expected to rise.
There has been a surge in new cases lately in Kedah and Sabah, while case numbers across Peninsular Malaysia have been steadily rising as well.
The country is also dealing with political uncertainty as Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's majority in the Lower House is now in doubt.
Sarawak is also due for an election in less than 10 months, and a by-election will have to be called for the Batu Sapi seat in Sabah within two months. - Mkini
