Former premier Najib Abdul Razak's wife, Rosmah Mansor, had denied knowledge of key figures in the controversial solar hybrid energy project for 369 rural schools in Sarawak.
This was contained in excerpts of her statement recorded by the MACC in 2018. The document was allowed to be tendered as an exhibit during her corruption trial at the Kuala Lumpur High Court yesterday.
According to the statement, Rosmah claimed she did not know former Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd managing director Saidi Abang Samsudin or his former business partner Rayyan Radzwill Abdullah.
Rosmah’s denials were contained in answers to two questions posed by the MACC on whether she knew the two individuals.
Saidi and Rayyan are two key figures in the matter that had given testimony as prosecution witnesses in her ongoing corruption trial linked to the project.
Additionally, according to an answer to another question regarding what she knew about the project, Rosmah also denied knowing one “Cikgu Azmi”.
It was previously reported that “Cikgu Azmi” referred to Pekan Umno secretary Aazmey Abu Talib whose name was mentioned in the testimony of former education minister Mahdzir Khalid previously during the trial.
Rosmah's statement was recorded by the MACC during the antigraft watchdog's investigation into the Sarawak solar hybrid energy project.
During the trial today, MACC investigating officer Noornabilah Mohd Aziman testified that evidence she gathered during the investigation indicated that Rosmah seemed to know Saidi.
The 23rd prosecution witness was replying to a question from DPP Ahmad Akram Gharib in reference to Rosmah’s statement to the MACC.
During the re-examination by the prosecution today, Noornabilah said that there were a video and picture of Saidi at Rosmah’s residence at No 11, Jalan Langgak Duta, Kuala Lumpur.
Akram: From your investigation, did you find Rosmah knew Saidi?
Noornabilah: (They) know, through the statement by Saidi and (Rosmah’s former aide) Rizal Mansor.
When Akram asked whether there was evidence to indicate that Saidi was at Rosmah’s house, Noornabilah said there were video and pictures showing this.
The DPP then referred to a photo which seemed to show Saidi within the house. On seeing the picture, Noornabilah confirmed that this was among the evidence indicating that Saidi and Rosmah knew each other.
At the end of the proceedings today, Noornabilah was released from the witness stand as the final prosecution witness
Akram then informed judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan that the defence had a request to recall Mahdzir for further cross-examination.
Zaini then adjourned the trial and fixed Oct 20 for the defence to recall Mahdzir to the witness stand for further cross-examination.
Rosmah is on trial over three charges on alleged misappropriation of funds for the supply and installation of solar energy panels at 369 rural schools in Sarawak for the Education Ministry.
She faces one count of allegedly soliciting RM187.5 million and two charges of purportedly receiving a bribe of RM6.5 million from Jepak Holdings managing director Saidi Abang Samsudin as a reward for helping the company secure the RM1.25 billion project obtained through direct negotiations with the ministry. - Mkini
