COVID-19 | As the number of active Covid-19 cases continues to mount in the Klang district, an MP has urged Health Minister Dr Adham Baba to close schools.
In his letter, Klang MP Charles Santiago said parents are getting worried as the district was now a "red zone" (a district with more than 40 active cases).
In view of this, Charles urged Adham to advise Education Minister Radzi Jidin to suspend schooling in the district to allay fears of parents.
He said two schools in the district have already reported that their pupils were infected and 64 parent-teacher associations are supportive of closing schools temporarily.
Currently, Selangor is the only district outside of Kedah and Sabah that is considered a "red zone".
There are two "red zones" in Selangor - Petaling (60) and Klang (77) - as of noon yesterday.
Several schools across the country have decided to suspend lessons entirely or specific classes due to confirmed or suspected Covid-19 infections in recent weeks.
As of last night, only one Form One and one Form Five class in SMK Pandamaran Jaya and five Year Six classes at SK Taman Sri Andalas have been suspended.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced that the government's policy was only to close schools in "red zones".
However, he did not rule out closing schools nationwide, unlike how he ruled out a complete shutdown of the economy. - Mkini
