Journalist returning from working trip to Sabah affected by coronavirus

COVID-19 | A member of the media who was assigned to cover Sabah state election has been tested positive for Covid-19.

In a statement today, Media Prima Berhad (Media Prima) said it was notified by health authorities that an employee of The New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Berhad (NSTP) has been diagnosed with the coronavirus.

"The affected personnel returned from the editorial duties in Sabah on Sept 30 and had undertaken the mandatory Covid-19 test administered by the Health Ministry.

"The affected person had been undergoing self-quarantine and had not visited any Media Prima premises since returning from Sabah," Media Prima said in the statement.

"We will provide the necessary support to the affected personnel. We pray for a speedy recovery," it said, adding that all staff returning from Sabah had undergone mandatory Covid-19 test and were currently undergoing 14-day self-quarantine at their homes.

It is learned that the journalist had covered a press conference chaired by Hajiji Noor on Sept 29, the same day he was sworn in as the Sabah chief minister. The journalist left Sabah the next day.

Sabah has become the new epicentre of the Covid-19 outbreak since the state election on Sept 26. Several politicians who were campaigned during this period were affected by the virus. - Mkini
