KUALA LUMPUR: A man under Covid-19 quarantine and wearing a pink bracelet was detained for flouting the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) at Bandar Tasik Puteri here, last night.

The 52-year-old Bandar Tasik Puteri resident was dining at a restaurant when he was nabbed by a police team at 7.30pm, following complaints lodged by the public.

Gombak district police chief Assistant Commissioner Arifai Tarawe said checks revealed that the man had been instructed by the Health Ministry to undergo home quarantine from yesterday until Oct 16.

"The man underwent Covid-19 screening at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) after arriving from Kota Kinabalu and his result is still pending," he said, adding that the man will be remanded today at a special room at the Gombak police headquarters.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 269 of the Penal Code for negligent act likely to spread infection of any disease dangerous to life; and under Section 22(b) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988; as well as Regulation 11 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the local Infected Areas) Regulations 2020.

"His non-compliance with the quarantine order clearly triggered uneasiness among the community.

"We urge the public to comply with quarantine orders as directed by health authorities to ensure their own safety and the safety of their families and others," he said.

Arifai added that police would not hesitate to take strict action against those who violate the order.
