Nik Abduh grateful over Khairuddin's fate, eggs Harapan to find new topic

Influential PAS central committee member Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz has praised God after the authorities have dropped a probe on fellow committee member Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali.

In view of this, Nik Abduh urged Pakatan Harapan to move on to other issues.

"While Khairuddin's supporters celebrate now that the long-awaited truth has been revealed, the opposition can move to other issues to garner support.

"There are many other issues. Moreover, the political situation in the country is not very stable now. Harapan is famous for making a mountain out of a molehill. So go on," he wrote on his Facebook page last night.

Nik Abduh also sarcastically thanked Harapan figures for repeatedly complaining about Khairuddin to the police, which he said have performed investigations with integrity and transparency.

The results of which, he said, allowed the truth to emerge.

"It is very clear that no instructions were issued for Khairuddin to undergo quarantine after he returned from abroad," he said.

Nik Abduh also noted that Khairuddin (photo) had apologised openly, paid the RM1,000 fine and surrendered four months of his salary to the federal government's Covid-19 relief fund.

"Therefore, it is appropriate for us to accept the authority's decision with an open heart," said the PAS leader.

Khairuddin was not subjected to home quarantine orders after returning from Turkey in early July. He attended Parliament a few days later.

The matter triggered public outrage after it was exposed by DAP deputy secretary-general Teresa Kok. The authorities finally handed Khairuddin an RM1,000 fine.

According to the Attorney-General's Chambers, Khairuddin was never issued home quarantine orders. What was not explained was why Khairuddin was handed the backdated RM1,000 fine.

This episode had sparked allegations of double-standards practiced by the Perikatan Nasional government, in view of the large number of people who were convicted by courts for violating home quarantine orders and jailed. - Mkini
