Istana Negara has issued a warning against the spread of fake news involving the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the palace for political and personal interests.
In a statement today, Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin (above) said there were individuals making false statements to the press and spreading fake WhatsApp messages.
Fadil warned that such irresponsible acts could cause public unease and threaten national security.
In view of this, he said the palace might report matters to the police and the Communications and Multimedia Commission if necessary.
"Istana Negara urges the rakyat to not panic and believe fake news.
"Istana Negara also urges that fake news should not be spread to avoid being subject to action by the authorities," he said. - Mkini
