KUALA LUMPUR: Police say some workers are misusing company letters of consent to move about without good reason on weekends in areas where the conditional movement control order (CMCO) is in effect.
Sentul district police chief S Shanmugamoorthy Chinniah said the employers would be contacted immediately when such incidents occur.
He said some employees in service sectors were found to be taking advantage by using the consent letters to run personal errands at weekends, although their companies only work normal hours.
“There were also some workers who made copies of the letters for their colleagues, but it is not possible for all of them to be working at the same time on non-working days.
“In addition, a more careful and frequent inspection will also be done on the service sector, especially courier deliveries,’’ he told reporters after monitoring the compliance of the CMCO at several roadblocks in his district today.
Inter-district travel restrictions are in place in CMCO areas.
Shanmugamoorthy said police had also found people who gave the excuse that they wanted to deliver packages or items by furnishing the related documents. However, further inspections showed they were actually moving about empty-handed.
“So, if prior to this, only compound fines or warnings were given to those who flouted the CMCO, this time the same action will be taken against their employers.
“I urge the public not to pull wool over the eyes of enforcement authorities. We are all trying to stop the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic by restricting movement of people,’’ he said. - FMT
