Pua - Any government that depends on Najib can 'go to hell'

Damansara MP Tony Pua has rejected the formation of any government with the support of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Pua said Najib has been unremorseful for any of his misdeeds in the 1MDB scandal.

"Absolutely nuts. Some who may have unprincipled hunger for power would lap up Najib's support to form a new government.

"I would never sign up to such a government.

"A government who has to depend on Najib's support can go to hell. We already see that happening for the traitors in Perikatan Nasional (PN)," Pua wrote on Facebook.

Pua was responding to a Malaysiakini article which cited sources as saying that Najib had urged BN MPs to throw their support behind PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.

Najib's lobbying came ahead of an Umno supreme council meeting, which would decide among others whether to continue support for PN.

Anwar had previously claimed to have majority support to form a new government.

Najib, together with Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, had purportedly signed a letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong voicing support for the PKR president.

Zahid's aides claimed the letter was fake, but Najib has kept mum on the matter.

Several Umno leaders, however, have objected to the possibility of forming a government with Anwar and the latter's ally, DAP.

DAP has also voiced dissatisfaction with PKR, over the latter respecting an earlier Umno stance to support PN.

Najib is currently on trial over four counts of abuse of power and 21 counts of money laundering involving RM2.28 billion of 1MDB's funds.

He was also convicted over the misappropriation of RM42 million from state-owned SRC International Sdn Bhd. This matter is currently under appeal.

"The simple fact remains that Najib is the biggest crook in the country, brought shame to Malaysians all over the world and burdened Malaysians with tens of billions of debt (if not more)," Pua said.

"And yet, he demonstrates no remorse, expresses no guilt and even has the audacity to claim the money was for poor orphans," he added. - Mkini
