TEMCO in Kedah extended 2 weeks to Nov 1

 

Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the TEMCO around the Alor Setar Prison was extended following the increasing number of cases in the area.

PETALING JAYA: The targeted enhanced movement control order (TEMCO) implemented to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the area around the Alor Setar Prison in Kedah has been extended a further two weeks until Nov 1.

At a press conference today, Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the decision was reached due to the increasing number of cases in the area.

As of yesterday (Oct 17), there were 1,178 positive cases, comprising 1,173 prisoners and 41 prison staff in the area.

The TEMCO, which began on Oct 5, was due to expire on Oct 18.

Meanwhile, Ismail said police arrested 661 individuals for various offences under the conditional movement control order (CMCO).

Of that number, 632 were fined, 27 remanded and two given bail.

The offences included not wearing face masks (223), flouting physical distancing rules (191), failure to take down customers’ personal details (112), flouting CMCO orders (75) and others (15).

Police also arrested 86 illegal immigrants and seized 35 vehicles.

A total of 2,477 task force teams, involving 11,659 personnel, conducted checks at premises, including supermarkets, restaurants and factories.

Regarding the mandatory home quarantine, Ismail said 50,254 people who arrived through KLIA were screened for Covid-19 from July 24 to Oct 17 and were quarantined.

A total of 381 individuals were sent to hospital for treatment, while 41,722 have been allowed to return home. - FMT
