The association representing 4,000 Indian-Muslim restaurant owners wants Putrajaya to extend the automatic loan moratorium after the implementation of the conditional movement control order in the Klang Valley.
The people and businesses may also want to know when the Covid-19 bill or the Temporary Measures for Reducing the Impact of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) Bill 2020, which has been passed by the Dewan Rakyat on Aug 25 and the Dewan Negara on Sept 22, will become law.
The bill has yet to be presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for His Majesty’s assent under Article 66(4) of the Federal Constitution, following which it has to be gazetted to have the force of law.
Similar Covid-19 legislation in other jurisdictions have long been passed to provide for legislative measures to deal with the impact of the pandemic. For example, Singapore passed the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) Act 2020 as early as April 7.
Come this weekend, it will be seven months since the country first went into nationwide lockdown. The pandemic is now well into its third wave, with rising Covid-19 cases daily.
So, when will the Covid-19 bill – intended to reduce the impact of the pandemic – become law?
