KOTA KINABALU: The Tong Hing Supermarket at Gaya Street has been closed for disinfection after a staff tested positive for Covid-19.
The supermarket management said that they decided to cease operations for disinfection works on Wednesday (Oct 14), after learning about the positive case.
The management said that there was no instruction from the Health Ministry to close for operations as yet, but they felt that it was their duty to take quick action.
“The said employee was in contact with a family member who tested positive for Covid-19, and was sent for a test as a precautionary measure.
“Unfortunately, he was tested positive and has been undergoing quarantine ever since. During this difficult time, we will be providing all our employees with every support and guidance, ” said the management in a statement.
It also said that the supermarket was closed for professional deep cleaning and sanitising in accordance with the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health.
“While waiting for directives from the ministry, we have taken our own initiative to send all our staff for immediate precautionary health screenings, ” it said.
The management assured the public that they will only reopen their store when they have carried out every possible procedure to keep the store clean and safe for customers.
