Woman accused of mariticide to inherit millions worth of asset

KAJANG: It was a murder straight out of a Hollywood movie plot where a 45-year-old woman allegedly masterminded the murder of her blind husband to inherit millions worth of assets.

G. S Angela Devi allegedly sent her younger brother as the hitman to end the life of R. Devarajoo.

The accused, who was married to her husband for 17 years, staged a robbery to end his life earlier this month.

It was reported that the 59-year-old businessman was pronounced dead at Kajang Hospital after being warded for 10 days due to severe injuries on his head.

Today, Devi and her brother G. S Vijaya, 42, were charged at the magistrate's court here under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

They arrived in court about 8.30am before being ushered into the courtroom by several policemen.

No family members were seen during the proceedings before Magistrate Muhammad Firdaus Rosli.

The duo were calm inside the dock and nodded in understanding when the charge was read.

However, no plea was recorded from them.

According to the charge sheet the incident happened between 12pm and 1am on Oct 1 at a house near Kampung Baru Sungai Chua here.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Hairuliqram Hairuddin did not offer bail as the offence is a non-bailable one.

Both the accused were unrepresented.

The case has been fixed for mention on Dec 21.

It was reported that the Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaid Hassan said police investigation revealed that the victim's wife and her younger brother had allegedly planned the victim's murder in order to inherit his assets.

"The wife initially lodged a police report over a house break in and her husband was injured during the incident.

"Our investigation revealed that the victim was hit on his head by a hammer. We have already confiscated the weapon." he said. - NST
