Alliance with Umno a betrayal, frustrates Harapan supporters - PKR rep

An alliance between DAP, PKR and Umno to form a new Perak government will frustrate Pakatan Harapan supporters, said PKR's Machap Jaya assemblyperson Ginie Lim.

Perplexed by the proposal of the alliance, she stressed that the cooperation is not based on principle and policy but to serve a personal interest in the name of political stability and the people.

"This proposal will frustrate Harapan supporters and the people because the people's mandate in the 14th general election was to reject the kleptocrat government of BN-Umno under the helm of former premier Najib Abdul Razak.

"Therefore, if Harapan cooperates with Umno, it's a betrayal to the people, and it is giving new life to the party rejected by the people," she added in a statement today.

Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak confirmed that he had discussed with Umno leaders over the possible formation of the new state government in Perak.

However, he stated that the partnership was possible only as a bloc with its Harapan partners DAP and Amanah.

Perak DAP had given the nod to the alliance "in the best interest of the people" to form a multiracial, strong and stable government.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had confirmed that the party was talking to all parties about forming a new coalition.

The Perak crisis was triggered after former menteri besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu failed a confidence vote mooted by Umno during the state assembly sitting last Friday.

Following that, Faizal and his exco line-up resigned.

Meanwhile, Lim warned that the coalition will not last as it is a "marriage of convenience" and raised a question on PKR's struggle for the last two decades.

"Politics without principle is filled with deceptions and lack of trust.

"In the end, what is being chased is power and positions under the name of political stability and the people.

"If this is what has been sought after, has the struggle of more than two decades for reform been rendered meaningless?" she added. - Mkini
