The Malaysian army has thwarted an attempt by 13 foreigners to illegally enter the country through Pengerang in Johor.
The 3rd Division Infantry headquarters said they were caught hiding at Kuari Baru, Pantai Kampung Tanjung Che Lahom during an Op Benteng operation at 1.40 am today.
The operation was mounted following intelligence that they were detected along the coastal areas of Tanjung Penyusop until Kampung Simon, Teluk Ramunia, Kota Tinggi, it said in a statement.
“The suspects comprised nine men and four women aged between 21 and 47,” it added.
Cash totalling RM34,619.99, which included RM2,728.70 in Malaysian currency, Indonesian rupiah of 8,286,700.00 (RM2,392.65), various other currencies, 15 handphones, wristwatches and jewellery were seized from the suspects.
The suspects were taken to the Tanjung Sepang Tactical Headquarters for Covid-19 screening before being handed over to the Immigration Department.
