LANGKAWI: The body of a pregnant woman was found floating about 0.1 nautical miles north of Kubang Badak estuary near here on Thursday (Dec 10).
Kedah/Perlis Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director First Admiral Mohd Zawawi Abdullah said the body was found floating near an unregistered capsized boat by the public at about 9am.
"After receiving a report from the public through Langkawi Maritime Rescue Sub centre (MRSC), a MMEA boat, Petir 81, was dispatched to the scene.
"Initial observation found that a body of a pregnant woman was found floating and entangled to the anchor rope of the capsized boat," he said in a statement on Thursday (Dec 10).
Mohd Zawawi said the operation to retrieve the body was difficult, as the body was entangled.
He however said the body was finally brought to the boat and brought to the MMEA in Bukit Malut at about 11.40am.
Mohd Zawawi said the identity of the victim is still unknown, and added that the body has been checked by Langkawi Ministry of Health personnel before being handed over to police for further action.
"No reports of a missing person have been received by the Langkawi MRSC so far," he said.
He added that anyone with information relating to the case, or those who have any missing family members are urged to contact Langkawi maritime Operation center at 04-9662750. - Star
