Insufficient evidence to back racism claims against Limkokwing Uni

The Higher Education Ministry said there was insufficient evidence to prove claims of racism against the management of Limkokwing University.

In a parliamentary written reply, the Higher Education Ministry said it had formed a special investigation committee following the allegations.

"Based on observation, it was found that there wasn't enough evidence to state that Limkokwing University of Creative Technology had engaged in any wrongdoing with regard to the issue of racism," Higher Education Minister Noraini Ahmad said.

She was responding to a question from Bangi MP Ong Kian Ming who asked for an update on the investigation into alleged racism and abuse of power against Limkokwing's senior management team.

With regard to the allegation that some of the lecturers at Limkokwing University did not have a permit to teach, Noraini acknowledged the incident but said they have since been addressed.

"The committee's review found that action had been taken against lecturers at Limkokwing who did not have a teaching permit," she said.

Noraini added that Limkokwing University had been instructed to improve its management so that there will not be a repeat of such incidences.

Former staff members had spoken out against the university after it became embroiled in controversy over a billboard hailing the institution's founder Lim Kok Wing as the "King of Africa". - Mkini
