Kelab PJ, resto-bar shut down after man on night out contracts Covid-19

Covid-19 hit Kelab PJ will remain closed until they get the go-ahead from the authorities to reopen.

PETALING JAYA: A sports and recreational club and a restaurant bar here have been forced to close after a man who visited the establishments on Monday was found Covid-19 positive.

Kelab PJ and the resto-bar closed on Tuesday after it emerged that the man had contracted the disease.

The man, who was said to have been running a fever, had first gone to Kelab PJ, a members’ club, before hitting the bar.

It is believed the man was at both places before he tested positive.

The case has reignited the issue of business operators monitoring the body temperatures of patrons as in some places people do it on their own.

While not having to record every reading, business owners must ensure patrons are not symptomatic before they enter the premises.

Kelab PJ secretary Rueben Sundram said the infected member might face disciplinary action for visiting the club when he was ill.

He said test results of employees and 12 members who were at the club on that day were negative.

The resto-bar operator, who requested anonymity, said his 10 workers and several customers were also cleared of infection.

Both the establishments will remain closed until they get the nod from the authorities to reopen. Sanitisation and disinfection of the premises have been completed.

Three major recreational clubs in the Klang Valley and another in Ipoh have been affected by Covid-19 since last month.

Kelab PJ was in the news in June after police ordered the sale of liquor and beer to stop at its restaurant over a movement control order violation.

It has a membership of about 700, comprising the middle-income, semi-professional and professional groups. - FMT
