Minister differentiates CMCO, RMCO after interstate travel allowed

Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today explained the difference between the conditional movement control order (MCO) and the recovery MCO.

This is after questions arose due to the government allowing inter-district and interstate travel nationwide, except at enhanced MCO areas.

"What's the difference between conditional MCO and recovery MCO? In conditional MCO areas, social activities are not allowed," he said at a press conference today.

He added that in areas that are now under recovery MCO, events such as wedding receptions could be held as long as they adhere to SOPs.

Meanwhile, Ismail said that even though interstate travel is now allowed and rules have been relaxed, this does not mean that the Covid-19 pandemic has ended.

Instead, he reiterated that it is up to the public to enforce self-discipline and to keep themselves, their families, and their community safe.

Ismail also announced a relaxation for dine-in rules.

He said there would no longer be any limits to table capacity, and that all that is required is social distancing.

"For example, a Chinese restaurant with a big table that can seat 10 people. With distancing maybe they can fit seven people," he said.

The National Security Council's guidelines issued on Dec 7 previously stated that there need only be a one-metre distance between patrons sitting at the same table.

However, Sabah, which has the autonomy to set its own rules, does enforce a 50 percent table capacity limit.

It is unclear if Ismail's announcement will cover Sabah as well. - Mkini
