MPs under quarantine can attend Parliament wearing PPEs

COVID-19 | Lawmakers undergoing home-stay orders (HSO) will be allowed to attend Parliament for the process of voting by wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Takiyuddin Hassan said there are currently three MPs, including an opposition MP, who are under quarantine as they are close contacts to positive Covid-19 patients.

Takiyuddin said these three MPs will be placed in a special area in the Dewan Rakyat so that they can vote during the committee stage of the Budget 2021.

“Yes, they can attend but to enter the Dewan, they have to wear a complete PPE.

“We will also place them in a special area in the Dewan Rakyat,” he said when met after a dialogue session with the PAS president at the party’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

Takiyuddin said the three MPs currently under quarantine are Health Minister Dr Adham Baba, Human Resources Minister M Saravanan and Batu MP P Prabakaran.

The last week of the Dewan Rakyat session for the year will see five more ministries go through debates at the committee stage for the Supply Bill 2021.

As such, the attendance of parliamentarians during this process is critical as it could determine whether the bill is passed or not.

The third reading of the bill is expected to take place this Wednesday.
