Pas claims DAP, Amanah taking advantage of Umno's small majority in Perak

KOTA BARU: Pas believes DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) are out to take advantage of Umno's slim majority in Perak by showing interest in becoming part of the new state government.

Pas vice president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said this is because both DAP and Amanah were aware that Umno does not have enough seats by itself to form a majority.

"Until now, there has yet to be any decision made regarding the Perak political crisis. From what I can see, both DAP and Amanah are 'menangguk di air keruh' (capitalising on the situation) as they know Umno does not have the majority to form a new government.

"As such, they are willing to cooperate with Umno by offering themselves, hoping that Umno will accept them in the government.

"On the Umno side, I've yet to hear the party president saying that they will cooperate with DAP or Amanah. The Umno president had mentioned a coalition but he did not provide any details," he told reporters after Kelantan Pas' meeting at JKR 10 today.

Mohd Amar, who is also Kelantan deputy Menteri Besar, said Pas sees the Perak political crisis as an isolated case and something that must be resolved within the party itself.

He said Pas would maintain its earlier stance that it would not be a part of the new Perak government.

"Pas will wait for the next development and hope that it will be a solution," he added.

Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming had previously said that it was willing to work with any party, including Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) to form a new state government.

Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had previously said that he was not ruling out the possibility of a new coalition forming the next Perak government.

Pas secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan had said that an Islamic party would not be part of the new state government.

Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu was recently ousted as the Perak Menteri Besar after failing to secure a majority during a vote of confidence tabled at the state legislative assembly sitting.

He only received the backing of 10 assemblymen. Forty eight others voted against him with one abstaining.

The Perak state assembly comprises 25 Umno assemblymen, DAP (16), Bersatu (5), Amanah (5), PKR (3), Pas (3), one Gerakan and one Independent. - NST
