Varsity students might return to campus by March

The higher education ministry is working with colleges and universities to tighten SOPs as students are expected to return to campuses.

PETALING JAYA: University students could be returning to their campuses by March next year if the National Security Council agrees to a proposal by the higher education ministry.

The higher education minister, Noraini Ahmad, said she will submit the proposal to the NSC for deliberation before any decision is made.

“It is still being discussed. The ministry wants the students to go back to their campuses in March but the NSC has the final say. When we get the green light, we will make an official announcement,” she told Berita Harian today.

Noraini said she is working closely with colleges and universities to strengthen their SOPs as the institutions were preparing to allow their students to return.

She said among the proposed SOPs was that colleges needed to provide enough space to allow students to have proper physical distancing.

“Hybrid classes will be conducted to eliminate any risk,” Noraini said. Hybrid classes combine traditional face-to-face learning with some online teaching activities. - FMT
