Warisan Youth chief Mohd Azis Jamman defended the party's decision to break ranks with Pakatan Harapan, stressing that Warisan had to speak up in order to push for a decisive opposition.
Warisan was absent from the initial rounds of voting on Budget 2021 during the committee stage in the Dewan Rakyat to express displeasure at opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim after he instructed the opposition not to seek bloc voting when the fiscal document passed the policy stage.
"We were attacked left and right when we raised the need for a leadership change in the opposition. We only voiced our view, if they accept it, then great, if not, don't condemn us.
"But this friend attacked us and demanded an apology. We voiced out based on our observations and the realities before us.
"How are we going to oust the Perikatan Nasional government if the leadership in the opposition bloc keeps changing their stance? There is no assertiveness.
"In politics, we must be decisive," Azis said when delivering his winding-up speech at Warisan Youth's annual general assembly.
He noted that Warisan was attacked, particularly by PKR Youth, for making the stance.
However, he reminded PKR Youth that Warisan is not Harapan and not bound by the coalition's instructions.
"We are not part of Pakatan Harapan. We are only part of the opposition bloc, mainly because we stuck to our principles.
"When we raised the need for change in Harapan leadership, that is our view," he said.
Azis also responded to a suggestion by a delegate for Warisan to contest all seats in Sabah, stressing that sharing is part and parcel of politics.
"The reality is, in politics, we need partners. It's like a husband and wife in a house. If only the husband's voice is heard, there will not be harmony," he said. - Mkini
