YOURSAY | No bullying of ‘budaks’ in Parliament, please

YOURSAY | ‘Calling Muar MP Syed Saddiq ‘budak’ is outrageously rude and disrespectful.’

Speaker says Pasir Salak MP's 'budak' swipe against Syed Saddiq 'only a joke'

Mazilamani: A Yang Berhormat is a Yang Berhormat, whether the elected member is young or old. Calling Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman ‘budak’ is outrageously rude and disrespectful.

Dewan Rakyat speaker Azhar Azizan Harun must not dismiss the matter as a joke. The speaker is now encouraging and inviting others to call Syed Saddiq ‘budak’. We also have another YB (Batu MP P Prabakaran) who is younger than Syed Saddiq.

This action definitely amounts to bullying by senior MPs. The speaker should have corrected and demanded Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman to withdraw his remark and apologise to Syed Saddiq.

I think Tajuddin's sense of humour is misplaced and distasteful, especially when the parliamentary session is having a serious discussion on Budget 2021. We don't need the distraction.

We have another uncouth YB allegedly showing his middle finger. If true, the person must be admonished for the immature and rowdy act. He, too, escaped being warned by the speaker.

Goliath: What kind of maturity is being displayed by this 72-year-old MP? This is unacceptable during a parliamentary sitting, and he should be immediately thrown out for the rest of the session.

Please tell all the old folks in the Parliament that they outstayed their welcome and it’s time they check themselves into an old folk's home.

We don’t need any more old folks running this country, who not only have memory issues but have zero manners. This government ought to apologise for such behaviour!

Hcleong: Dear Mr Speaker, how do you know that Tajuddin was just joking? Did he tell you so? Did he whisper into your ears?

Tajuddin has been known for his bullying attitude and behaving ungentlemanly. Could it be he was trying to bully Syed Saddiq by calling him a boy?

What if another YB calls you, Mr Speaker, ‘boy’? Tajuddin is insulting not only Syed Saddiq but all those who voted for him to represent them in Parliament.

Even if Tajuddin was joking, it is unbecoming of him to try such a silly and insulting joke.

Mr Speaker, you had lost all our respect. You are now one of Tajuddin’s ‘gang’, defending him and encouraging his gang to make more such ‘jokes’.

You should have upheld the dignity of the august House and directed Tajuddin to apologise. That was the least you should have done. Instead, you are backing him.

Salvage Malaysia: Indeed, the speaker should enforce the proper protocols in the Dewan Rakyat. Syed Saddiq is an MP. The speaker has no authority to pass a judgement that it’s a joke made with no ill-intention.

It’s inappropriate to call a young MP ‘budak’ in Parliament. Period.

MalaysianSpirit: Syed Saddiq is probably the most grown-up of the lot and asking important questions, but we all know how these people behave.

They belittle and make fun of others to avoid answering serious questions while plundering the wealth of the nation; stirring tribal conflict while they run away with the loot.

IndigoTrout2522: Indeed, Parliament is a serious business. Every word and action is watched by the people because they affect the lives of the people. MPs are paid a lot of money to conduct the nation’s business.

Perhaps the speaker is a joke and has no business being there. He should be ashamed of himself and perhaps should remove himself from the chair.

At the very least, he should be severely reprimanded with a warning that he will be removed from this very serious position and the Dewan Rakyat if there’s a repeat of this type of incident.

Malaysianheart: Azhar, are parliamentary proceedings a joke? Are all of those in Parliament jokers? Are you a joke?

Proper decorum should be observed. Calling people names with disrespect or arrogance is not something to be considered as a ‘joke’.

GreenFalcon1907: The “I am 72-years-old” person doesn't seem to have learned anything good in life after all these long years.

I would guess he is the product of the environment that he grew up in. Nothing good comes out from this man. His thuggish behaviour is sickening. This is very typical among Umno "politicians".

As long as these uncivilised hooligans continue to hold positions of power, the prospect of our beloved country appears dim or non-existent.

That's why we need right-minded warriors the likes of Syed Saddiq to turn the country around for the betterment of future generations. And, as for Azhar, he is himself a joke.

ScarletHamster1885: Well, joke or no joke, these politicians are voted in by their constituents. People put these old useless politicians into power to govern. If those who voted for him have no problem, what can others do?

It is very annoying, but I guess Malaysians have to get used to it.

PW Cheng: Syed Saddiq is a more honourable and respectable person than the disrespectful Pasir Salak MP. At his age, if he does not learn to respect others, don’t expect others to respect him.

This man is a bigot and troublemaker. He contributed nothing to Prasarana (as chairperson) and is a liability to the rakyat who are paying him 'gaji buta' (blind salary).

Right and Wrong: Syed Saddiq, let others call you ‘budak’ and even let some silly people try to defend the remark made against you.

The rakyat are laughing at them because these jokers grew old too fast, and that is the reason they still behave immaturely. And most of these immature jokers even call themselves MPs. - Mkini
