‘Align with govt stance’ PAS says after Zahid calls for Parliament sitting

 

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has appeared to urge Umno to align its views with the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

This comes after Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi appealed to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to order for a Parliament sitting to be held as soon as possible.

PN maintains that Parliament needs to be postponed ostensibly to enable it to combat the Covid-19 pandemic more effectively.

Umno is part of the PN administration. It is also in the Muafakat Nasional alliance with PAS.

Tuan Ibrahim (above) - who is the Environment and Water Minister - said this evening that PN coalition partners ought to be sincere with one another.

“If your official statement is that you will support the PN government until Parliament is dissolved, then all your other statements also must be in line with the government’s stance.

“All component parties that formed the PN government ought to focus on helping the rakyat in this challenging time.

“Prove your loyalty by being a loyal friend. We have already agreed to build unity among the ummah, let us prove it,” he said in a Facebook post.

Tuan Ibrahim did not mention Umno or refer to any specific comments in his posting.

“Leaders are the ones who should mobilise the people to unite rather than it be the people calling on leaders to unite. Is this part of the new normal?” he remarked.

Yesterday, Zahid issued a strongly worded statement in his capacity as BN chairperson criticising de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan’s justification for postponing Parliament.

He also called for a sitting to be convened.

BN has since backtracked from the statement after MIC said coalition partners never agreed to make such an appeal.

Zahid’s apparent retort came as relations between Umno and Bersatu hit a new low.

Umno recently officially communicated its intention to cut ties with PN and Bersatu come GE15. Bersatu responded by saying it will focus on its relationship with other allies like PAS, Gerakan, and Star.

PAS, meanwhile, has not taken any sides publicly and continues to push for reconciliation between the two Malay parties. - Mkini
