Amanah assemblyperson denies molest allegations

Amanah assemblyperson Faiz Fadzil has denied the allegations that he molested a woman in January.

However, he did not go into details, citing ongoing police investigations into the claims.

"I have given my statement to the police (on March 18).

"I deny the allegations. The details of my defence can't be revealed seeing how investigations are underway," Faiz (above) said in a statement today.

Earlier today, Malaysiakini reported that a 31-year-old woman had lodged a police report against Faiz, who is the Permatang Pasir assemblyperson.

The woman, in her report, alleged that Faiz wanted to meet her on the pretext of discussing politics.

"According to the woman, when they were in a car to go for dinner later, the suspect had (allegedly) molested her, pulled her shoulder, and held her hand, but the woman pushed him away.

"Despite knowing that the woman was uncomfortable, the suspect continued doing it. He also allegedly told the victim not to tell anyone about what happened," said Subang Jaya district police chief Khalid Othman.

Police are investigating the case under Section 354 of the Penal Code, a law that stipulates offences regarding using criminal force to outrage the modesty of a person.

Meanwhile, Faiz said he is exploring possible legal action to clear his name.

He said he will also continue serving as the Permatang Pasir assemblyperson.

In an immediate response, Penang Amanah defended Faiz and said it believes the allegations against him are false.

“We also reject the political culture that is slanderous, disgusting, and oppressive. The political temperature in the country and the discourse around it should not lead to the propagation of such disgusting and despicable culture,” said Penang Amanah chairperson Roslan Ahmad. - Mkini
