KOTA KINABALU: A Fortune 500 company from South Korea is planning to set up a RM2.3 billion copper foil manufacturing plant in Sabah.
SK Nexilis, a subsidiary of Korean giant SKC Co, will build the plant at the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) near here which is expected to create 400 job opportunities.
Chief Minister Hajiji Noor welcomed the South Korean company setting up its first overseas plant here.
He said the investment would put Sabah on the map of the manufacturing sector for electric vehicle components and in general, thus, creating a positive chain reaction on the state’s economy.
“I hope SK Nexilis’ venture in Sabah will attract the attention of other world companies and others from Korea to come and invest here,” he said in a statement here today.
Construction of the manufacturing plant is expected to start in July.
Hajiji met the company’s vice-president Lee Hyun-woo at his official residence in Sri Gaya here today.
The chief minister assured the South Korean entourage that the state government would provide assistance to facilitate the company’s investment in Sabah.- FMT
