Police arrested an unemployed man believed to have set his relative’s car on fire at Jalan Indah 4/1, Taman Bukit Indah, Johor Bahru early Wednesday.
Iskandar Puteri police chief ACP Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the 47-year-old man was picked up by the roadside at Jalan Indah 5/5 in the same area after the 22-year-old victim lodged a report on the incident.
“In his report, the victim said he heard his car’s alarm go off at 6.30am and rushed out to see the left side of his Proton Saga on fire,” he said in a statement today.
Dzulkhairi said the victim tried to put off the blaze but to no avail, prompting him to call the firefighters.
Acting on the victim’s information, he said the police picked up the suspect who also has a previous criminal record for robbery.
“The suspect admitted setting the car on fire as he was frustrated when his wife left home after a misunderstanding and had not returned since March 1,” he said, adding that further investigations are being done under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire.
