PETALING JAYA: Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced that the Keningau district in Sabah will go under a movement control order (MCO) effective tomorrow.

This follows a spike in Covid-19 cases, with 42 cases recorded from targeted screenings in Kg Lingkudau, presently under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO).

The MCO is set to last until April 4.

In a statement, Ismail also announced that the EMCO affecting Kg Tanah Merah in Kota Marudu, Sabah, will end tomorrow, as scheduled.

The health ministry identified 26 Covid-19 cases from the 65 targeted screenings carried out in the locality. The ministry also confirmed that the number of positive cases was decreasing.

Meanwhile, speaking on the arrests yesterday, Ismail said 100 people were detained, 97 of whom were asked to pay compound fines. Three were remanded.

Among the offences were flouting physical distancing rules (48), failure to provide materials for contact tracing or registration of customers (27), participating in activities at entertainment centres (12), failure to wear face masks (11), and crossing state or district borders without permission (two).

Ismail also said the authorities caught 13 illegal immigrants and seized seven vehicles under the ongoing Op Benteng.

Enforcement agencies had set up 267 roadblocks as part of the border monitoring operations. - FMT
