MACC can't sit back over 'cartel' claims in police force - Gobind

The MACC cannot stand by and watch the allegations of a "cartel" within the police force, said Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo.

He said this was especially when the claims came from Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador himself.

"What we have is unprecedented. It is no ordinary police officer but the police chief himself and publicly declaring that there are corrupt practices in the force and implicating police officers in the process.

"As head of the MACC, Azam Baki cannot sit back in light of these damning allegations which have in the past week dominated the public discussion," Gobind (above) said in a statement.

Hamid had claimed that a group of young police officers had formed a cartel to undermine him

The top cop was asked in an interview about a certain revelation that there's a movement to control the police force to allow them to carry out "dirty works".

Gobind said the MACC is empowered to investigate even if a report is not lodged under Section 29(3) of the MACC Act.

"The MACC must act without fear or favour especially in cases which impact on the integrity of enforcement agencies like the police force.

"The MACC must inspire confidence. Silence is not an option. Azam must explain how he will deal with the problem and if there is no plan to do so, he must explain why," the DAP lawmaker added. - Mkini
