Survey: Umno and PAS supporters hold opposite views on Muhyiddin

 

Umno and PAS supporters have opposite views on what Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin should do, according to a survey by Institut Darul Ehsan (IDE).

Most Umno supporters (72 percent) were largely in favour of Muhyiddin calling for snap elections, while most PAS supporters (74 percent) wanted him to complete his term.

These subsets of respondents were among 8,352 individuals polled by IDE between Feb 19 and 28.

IDE said the sampling method was "multi-stage" and reflected the country's sex, age, race, political inclination, and GE14 trends. It did not state if the respondents were selected through true random stratified sampling.

The survey findings were reported in IDE's 'Mood Rakyat Siri 3' report.

Umno and PAS supporters also disagreed on whether Muhyiddin handled the Covid-19 response successfully.

While 69 percent of Umno supporters said Muhyiddin was unsuccessful, 86 percent of PAS supporters thought otherwise.

According to IDE, the data suggested a stark contrast in the attitudes of Umno and PAS supporters.

"This scenario raises questions on whether PAS would choose to work with Bersatu in Perikatan Nasional or with Umno in Muafakat Nasional in the coming election," IDE said.

The same survey also suggested that only 1 in 5 respondents were in favour of Muhyiddin completing his term as prime minister.
