Titi Serong rep booted from Bersatu for backing Perak MB's ouster

Titi Serong assemblyperson Hasnul Zulkarnain Abdul Munaim has been booted from Bersatu over his alleged role in ousting the party's deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu as Perak menteri besar.

When contacted, this was confirmed by Perak Bersatu secretary Zainol Fadzi Paharudin.

Hasnul's sacking took effect on Dec 20 last year. He allegedly did not support Faizal when a vote of confidence on the menteri besar was tabled in the Perak state legislative assembly on Dec 3 last year.

Hasnul (above) won the Titi Serong seat as a Pakatan Harapan candidate. He was considered an up-and-coming star in the coalition.

He went on to become the Amanah Youth wing leader in December 2019 but defected to Perikatan Nasional just four months later.

Perak PKR sources told Malaysiakini that their leaders had been approached by Hasnul but they were not keen on accepting him.

Hasnul denied rumours that he was scouting for a new party and stressed that he has not made any decisions on his political future.

He added that he meets politicians across the political spectrum regularly.

"However, I do not intend to join any party for now," he told Malaysiakini.

Hasnul did not deny meeting PKR leaders but stressed that it was just a "normal meeting".

"For now, I will focus on my constituency. I'm not looking for a new party. We only discussed current affairs," he said.

Previously, Perak PKR information chief Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad said his party would not accept those who had betrayed the voters.

"People won't take their actions lightly because it led to the fall of (the Harapan) government (in Perak)," said Arafat.

Apart from Hasnul, six other Harapan assemblypersons are no longer with the coalition - Faizal (Bersatu-Chenderiang), Zainol (Bersatu- Sungai Manik), Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi (Bersatu-Tualang Sekah), Abdul Yunus Jamhari (PKR- Kuala Krau), A Sivasubramaniam (DAP- Buntong) dan Paul Yong Choo Kiong (DAP- Tronoh).
