Two ex-MACC chiefs appointed to Prasarana's board - Tajuddin

Two former MACC chief commissioners have been appointed to Prasarana Malaysia Bhd's board of directors, according to its chairperson Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.

Utusan Malaysia quoted Tajuddin as saying Abu Kassim Mohamed (above, left) and Mustafar Ali were appointed to their positions effective Feb 15.

Prior to his appointment, Abu Kassim had served as director-general of the National Centre for Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption while Mustafar headed the National Financial Crime Centre.

Utusan Malaysia also quoted Tajuddin as announcing the appointment of Norliah Noah as Prasarana's acting president and group chief executive with immediate effect.

"She is no stranger to the Prasarana Group.

"Since 2004 when she first joined, she held various important positions including director for the LRT3 project, rail capex head, chief technical officer and the group's chief operating officer since last year," Tajuddin told reporters after a visit to the Ampang LRT depot in Selangor.

Tajuddin also confirmed that Prasarana has terminated the services of its former group chief executive, Muhammad Nizam Alias, who was previously suspended and served with a show-cause letter over allegations of misconduct and insubordination.

Tajuddin said Prasarana's board held several meetings to deliberate on its decisions but the matter was not publicised to protect some people's reputation.

Last Dec 8, online portal The Vibes reported Nizam's suspension, quoting industry sources who attributed the move to a testy relationship at the leadership level following Tajuddin's appointment as chairperson in May last year.

At the time, Norliah's name had been cited as a possible successor.

Tajuddin, who responded to claims of interference in the board's decisions, later insisted that Prasarana - as the LRT3 project owner - had a right to be in the know of its turnkey contractor MRCB-George Kent's choice of subcontractors.

The LRT3 project started in August 2015 with an initial budget of RM10 billion to serve some two million people along the Bandar Utama-Johan Setia route but the costs tripled to a whopping RM31.65 billion.

It was among several mega infrastructure projects reviewed by the federal government after Pakatan Harapan came into power in May 2018. - Mkini
