The enhanced movement control order in the areas will end on May 31.

PETALING JAYA: An area in Raub, Pahang, and two locations in Jitra, Kedah, will be placed under a 14-day lockdown, starting on Tuesday.

Senior minister of security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the health ministry detected a spike in Covid-19 cases in Ulu Lepar, Raub, as well as Bandar Darulaman and Lubuk Kawah in Jitra.

The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in the areas will end on May 31.

He said for Ulu Lepas, the health officials recorded eight cases, while a total of 94 cases were reported in Bandar Darulaman and Lubuk Kawah.

“In Bandar Darulaman and Lubuk Kawah, 94 people tested positive for Covid-19,” Ismail said in his daily statement.

Meanwhile, Ismail said that the EMCO imposed at Windmills Condominium, Genting View Resorts and Apartment Mawar, Genting Highlands, will be lifted today.

He added the health ministry recorded seven Covid-19 cases from a total of 237 screenings conducted.

Ismail also said 639 people were arrested yesterday over movement control order-related offences.

He added police remanded 53 people for investigations while the other 586 were issued compound fines.

Ismail said among the offences were gambling, failure to wear face masks, crossing districts or states without permission and failure to provide materials for contact tracing or registration.

A total of 3,693 compliance task force teams were deployed to conduct checks on supermarkets, restaurants, hawker stalls, factories, banks and transport terminals.

Ismail also said the authorities arrested five illegal immigrants and seized two vehicles and two boats under the ongoing Op Benteng.

He added that 204,949 people had arrived through KLIA from July 24, 2020 to May 15 from various countries.

A total of 2,007 people were sent to hospital for treatment, while 195,202 were allowed to return home and 7,740 people are currently undergoing mandatory quarantine. - FMT
