25 ‘dangerous’ trees in KL to get the chop

DBKL says about 25 trees posing a threat to public safety will be cut down in stages from June to July.

PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will be cutting down trees seen as a threat to public safety.

It said it had identified some 25 trees, including those along Jalan Ampang, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Kinabalu that were in a “dangerous condition”.

Most of them were rain trees (samanea saman), ficus trees (ficus benjamina) and yellow flame trees (peltophorum pterocarpum), it said in a statement today.

They were either suffering from root rot, decaying branches or trunk rot, DBKL said, adding that all inspections were conducted by personnel recognised by the Malaysian Society of Arborist.

The trees will be chopped down in stages from June to July to ensure the safety of the public.

“The trees that have been cut down will be replaced with other trees, depending on the width of the space. If the area is unsuitable for a tree, it will be replaced with shrubs,” it said. - FMT
