After 7 months, MOH closes case on Hentian cluster

After spending nearly seven months tracking down Covid-19 cases in the Hentian Cluster, the Health Ministry yesterday declared the cluster to have ended.

The development comes after no new cases have been recorded in the cluster for 28 consecutive days, and is among 12 clusters to be declared to have ended yesterday.

The index case of the cluster (Case 18664) had undergone testing after reporting Covid-19 symptoms and was found to be positive on October 15 last year. Two days later, six more cases were identified and the Hentian cluster was announced.

The cluster is centred on Plaza Hentian Kajang in Selangor, which was placed under an enhanced movement control order beginning Oct 28 in a bid to contain the disease. The EMCO was in place until Nov 24.

Nevertheless, the cluster managed to spread to 13 districts across Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, and Perak.

The final tally came to 3,019 cases out of 13,372 people screened, corresponding to a positivity rate of 22.58 percent.

Fortunately, no Covid-19 deaths have been reported in this cluster. - Mkini
