Registration for the second round of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine programme will be open for those below 60 years old tomorrow.
Science, Innovation and Technology Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the public in that younger age group can start applying for AstraZeneca vaccination slots at 12pm.
“The Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) had decided that round two of the AstraZeneca vaccine programme in the Klang Valley, Penang, Kuching and Miri in Sarawak and in Johor will be open to the public below 60 at 12pm tomorrow, that is Wednesday, May 26.
“We will prioritise senior citizens today and tomorrow morning and we will continue to prioritise senior citizens in the mainstream National Covid-19 Immunisation Program (NIP) through appointments which we will provide at the normal vaccination centre,” he added.
Khairy was speaking at a weekly joint press conference with Health Minister Dr Adham Baba about updates on the NIP, held in Putrajaya which was broadcasted online.
The second round of registration for the AstraZeneca shots started on May 23 for those aged above 60.
So far, 228,347 appointments for the second round have been taken up, he said.
Khairy also said those who were put on the waiting list in the first opening for AstraZeneca will be automatically included in the second round.
Those who are keen can register for the AstraZeneca vaccine here.
Meanwhile, Khairy said he has received a list of about 5,800 members of the press from 144 agencies for the vaccination programme.
He reiterated that CITF would set appointments for members of the press as soon as possible, once he has received all the details of the over 5,800 of them.
“This is in line with efforts to protect those who are on the frontlines as the decision is to prioritise groups like teachers and members of the press,” he said. - Mkini
