PETALING JAYA: Former human resources minister M Kula Segaran wants the government to act on allegations of abuse of funds under the National Economic Regeneration Plan’s (Penjana) hiring incentive programme.

He claimed that many “dubious employers” had applied for the programme without hiring any workers.

“This is done by maintaining a list of names of individuals without employing them. How such names are obtained is the big question that remains to be answered,” he said in a statement.

The Ipoh Barat MP said Sabai assemblyman D Kamache had also lodged a police report on several individuals who were unemployed but were registered as contributors to the Social Security Organisation (Socso).

He said the individuals were presumed to be working for a company that had applied for Penjana’s hiring incentives.

If the claims were true, he said, there was an obvious lack of accountability and supervision of taxpayers’ money, and a violation of the Personal Data Protection Act 2010.

Kula asked if the government was aware of the issue and its next course of action.

“Fresh graduates and the young who have not worked before are the ones that lose out the most from these alleged malpractices.

“The minister must intervene against such abuses of funds which are meant for the unemployed,” he said, referring to human resources minister M Saravanan.- FMT
