Cops to question eight over break fast protest near Parliament

Police have identified eight individuals for questioning over a breaking fast event in front of Parliament which was held in protest on April 30.

Muda pro-tem secretary-general Amir Abdul Hadi said he will be questioned at Bukit Aman at 1pm on May 20 along with six others.

"Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir had his statement recorded by phone.

"He will not be present," Amir told reporters.

The remaining five are Paloh assemblyperson Sheikh Umar Ali Bagharib, Kampung Tunku assemblyperson Lim Yi Wei, PSM central committee member Sharan Raj, Federal Territories Amanah Youth chief Asmaalif Abdul Adam, Federal Territories Pejuang pro-tem chief Khairuddin Abu Hassan and Undi-18 co-founder Tharma Pillai.

Dang Wangi district police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah previously said participants of the “Buka Puasa Buka Parlimen" protest were being investigated under Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

This follows a report lodged by Ahmad Zainal Tuan Ismail, the assistant superintendent who led a team of police officers to keep the peace during the demonstration.

The demonstration was held on April 30 in front of the Parliament building in Kuala Lumpur.

Organised by Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat (SSR), an ad hoc coalition of youth groups, the protest was to demand Parliament to reconvene. - Mkini
