A doctor has expressed concern over the apparent cramped conditions at some Covid-19 quarantine and low-risk treatment centres (PKRC).
This was after images of such centres in Kelantan were published online, including by national news agency Bernama, that showed beds were less than one metre apart.
"Cannot believe we can quarantine people in such packed conditions? Not safe, insufficient ventilation space. Hope it is not true? @KKMPutrajaya," senior paediatrician consultant Amar-Singh HSS said on Twitter.
PKRC are normally used to house Covid-19 patients who are not exhibiting serious symptoms.
However, Amar cautioned that cramped conditions could lead to an increase of viral load in Covid-19 patients.
"Viral loads will go up when infected individuals are confined together like that.
"We need to open more facilities to spread out the people," Amar said.
The higher the viral load, the more serious symptoms a Covid-19 patient tends to experience.
Kelantan has opened several new PKRC after it ran out of Covid-19 beds in hospitals.
Nationally, the number of active Covid-19 cases have also exceeded available beds. The country recorded 37,396 active Covid-19 cases as of yesterday.
The country had also run out of beds in February. During that time, the government decided to ask low-risk Covid-19 patients to stay home. - Mkini
