Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that based on the Health Ministry’s data, 48,261 children and infants have been infected with the disease to date. Of these, 6,290 are below 18 months old.

“The latest development is concerning and should be a wake-up call to all parties, especially parents. We as adults should be responsible in protecting children from infection,” he said in his daily Covid-19 update today.
He urged people to “self-lockdown” in addition to following SOPs, including by not allowing children to play outside, ensure that they wear masks, and wash their hands frequently.
His statement comes as Covid-19 cases in Malaysia reached a new high of 7,289 new cases in a single day, while cumulative cases reached 525,889.
Senior citizens are generally at higher risk of Covid-19’s worst outcomes compared to younger people.
Early this month, however, Health Minister Dr Adham Baba said younger people are also becoming more susceptible to severe manifestations of the disease than before. - Mkini
