DAP asks ROS for permission to postpone June 20 national congress

The DAP has written to the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to request a postponement of the party's national congress scheduled to be held on June 20.

According to the party's national organising secretary Anthony Loke, he has made a similar request for the state conventions of Sabah, Sarawak, Labuan, Selangor and Perlis to be postponed.

"Taking into account the high prevalence of Covid-19 cases and the implementation of movement control order 3.0, DAP has sent an official letter to the home minister and ROS director-general on May 17 to request a postponement.

"This applies to the DAP national congress and state conventions for Sarawak, Sabah, Federal Territory of Labuan, Perlis, and Selangor," he said in a statement today.

To date, 10 DAP state committees have held their respective conventions as follows:

  1. Perak DAP on March 14
  2. Kedah DAP (March 19)
  3. Penang DAP (March 21)
  4. Terengganu DAP (March 26)
  5. Pahang DAP (March 28)
  6. Kelantan DAP (April 9)
  7. Negeri Sembilan DAP (April 11)
  8. Malacca DAP (April 18)
  9. Federal Territory DAP (April 25)
  10. DAP Johor (May 2)

"The DAP national congress is supposed to be held on June 20 and notices have already been issued to DAP branches nationwide.

"However, the implementation of MC0 3.0 until June 7 and the possibility of it being extended made it difficult for the congress to be held on the set date," said Loke.

All state conventions, which were supposed to be held within a few weeks, had to be postponed as all forms of meetings and assemblies were prohibited during the MCO period.

"Therefore, we appeal to the home minister and the Registrar of Societies to allow the DAP national congress and all pending state conventions to be held on a date after the MCO is relaxed and inter-state movement is allowed," said Loke.

Further information on the postponement of these dates will be announced soon after the DAP national headquarters receives feedback, he added. - Mkini
