Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has apologised for breaching Covid-19 prevention standard operating procedures (SOPs) last Saturday while distributing Ramadan and Hari Raya donations in Langkawi, Kedah.
The Langkawi MP said he was informed he did not record his body temperature before entering Surau Tsunami Batu Arang, Kuala Terang, Kuah, and as such, had breached SOPs.
"This is a mistake. This should not have happened. I apologise for not following SOPs.
"I will accept actions under the related laws," Mahathir said in a statement.
The nonagenarian also reminded the people of the dangers of Covid-19 and that it can infect any person regardless of their status or location.
"SOPs must be followed by all because it can prevent the virus from spreading," he said.
Earlier this month, former premier Najib Abdul Razak was fined RM3,000 for failing to register his presence at Restoran Nasi Ayam Hainan Chee Meng in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, and also for not scanning his body temperature when entering the premises. - Mkini
