It was not a plan to acquire Subang airport, says WCT

Subang Skypark, which is owned by WCT Holdings, said it would operate the airport under a lease whereby the government would continue to own the land and the airport.

KUALA LUMPUR: The reported plan to carve out the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah airport was actually a proposed re-concession and not a plan to acquire the airport as reported by several media organisations, says WCT Holdings Bhd.

It clarified that its wholly-owned unit, Subang Skypark Sdn Bhd (SSSB), had actually proposed a re-concession.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, the company also said that it would operate the airport under a lease whereby the government would continue to own the land and the airport.

“The proposal is currently at a concept paper stage which SSSB submitted to the transport ministry, finance ministry, and energy and natural resources ministry on March 1.

“The proposal is still preliminary,” it said.

According to WCT, submission of the concept papers to related government ministries was a common practice as the company has always been proactively on the lookout for new business opportunities. - FMT
