GEORGE TOWN: The Jelutong market here has been shuttered after four traders tested positive for Covid-19.
Penang Island City Council Mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang (pic) said on Monday (May 17) the closure is in effect until further notice.
“All stalls in the market as well as 186 roadside stalls along Jalan Penaga and Lorong Ipoh will be closed immediately to undergo disinfection.
“The Health Department will follow up and screen the traders.
“We will update on our social media when the market can reopen, ” he said during a Zoom meeting on Monday.
Yew also urged the public to always follow standard operating procedures to contain the virus.
“I urge the organisers and traders associations to be responsible when doing business at their premises.
“All SOPs must be strictly followed and only those considered low risk in the MySejahtera app can be allowed to enter public places.
“I hope everybody can stay at home if possible and follow SOPs as the current Covid-19 situation is worrying, ” he said. - Star
