PETALING JAYA: Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar today criticised the growing sense of complacency and lackadaisical attitude towards Covid-19 standard operating procedures among the public.

“The rakyat must not ignore SOPs even when they have been vaccinated against the virus.

“Please remember to take care of yourselves and each other because many are taking these SOPs lightly and behaving like the pandemic is already over,” he said in a statement today.

He added that flouting the SOPs would put a heavy burden on the country’s healthcare system.

“This dangerous attitude will only burden our healthcare facilities. If this continues, the prospects will be very grim.”

Citing India’s Covid-19 situation now, he said Malaysia must not allow the infections to get out of control.

“I hope enforcement agencies will come down hard and justly act against those flouting SOPs.”

The Sultan says everyone should play their part to make the movement control order (MCO) a success if it is reimposed for the third time to control the spread of Covid-19.

“Let it (MCO3) be the last one and ensure everyone does their part to make it work.

“Sacrifices must be made for the greater good of all. It is better to be safe than to be sorry.”

Sultan Ibrahim stressed that the country is now at a very “critical juncture” as the number of positive cases showed no signs of going down and several states, including Johor, had become high-risk states.

Further, he encouraged all Johoreans to register for the vaccination programme.

“I hope that the state government will also make wise decisions and act in the best interests of the rakyat.

“I also urge all Johoreans to register for vaccinations. Trust our medical experts and do not believe in rumours.” - FMT
