KJ: Not true that The Mines staff got vaccinated

Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin refuted a claim that employees of The Mines Resort have been vaccinated with the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine.

He was responding to a viral tweet yesterday from an anonymous Twitter account, which claimed that their friend who works at The Mines Resort had received the Sinovac vaccine.

“I have checked with the Petaling health district office as well as the Federal Territories Health Department.

“There is no special vaccination programme for staff of Mines Resort. As far as this one case is concerned, I am still awaiting specific details,” Khairy said in a tweet today.

In the same thread as their original tweet, the anonymous Twitter account also raised concerns about the Covid-19 Vaccination Programme for Manufacturing Sector and Related Services, which was linked to the purported vaccination of The Mines’ staff.

The original tweet has since been removed but the rest of the thread still remains.

Khairy also addressed concerns about the programme, which was mooted by the International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) and featured on the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM)'s website.

“Regarding this. This programme will only commence when there are enough vaccines for the general public in Phase Three and not when vaccines are in short supply.

“If you look closely, this is just for expressions of interest. This has not started,” he stressed, referring to the circular on FMM’s website.

Malaysiakini attempted to reach out to the Twitter account which posted the original claim, but there has been no response so far.

The Twitter account also posted a screenshot of their conversation with Khairy, which revealed they had also informed the minister about some other companies alleged to have received the vaccines too.

Khairy urged the individual to clarify their original tweet.

“While I check on your (friend's case), appreciate if you can clarify that this is one case being looked into as opposed to all of The Mines Resort staff being vaccinated.

“That is not true and your tweet gives the impression all The Mines staff were vaccinated,” Khairy said.

Malaysiakini also contacted Selangor Task Force Covid-19 chairperson Dzulkefly Ahmad and asked about the allegation that The Mines Resort staff were being vaccinated.

The former health minister said he has not heard about such an initiative. - Mkini
