GRS secure in Sabah, Shafie's 'return' as CM is idle chatter, says Joniston

KOTA KINABALU: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) has dismissed claims on social media that Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal will make a return and be sworn in as chief minister.

GRS information chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai (pic) said this was "idle chatter" as the GRS state government was secure.

"There is nothing to deny because there is no truth to it," said the Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) secretary-general.

The speculation gained ground over the Hari Raya weekend after Shafie suggested that his party preferred to work with PBS.

PBS president Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili later welcomed the Warisan president's gesture but made no commitments, only saying that they were prepared to work with any party in the interest of the state.

Ongkili reiterated PBS' commitment to GRS under Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The GRS state government has a comfortable majority of 48 seats in the 79-seat assembly while the Opposition Parti Warisan Sabah and its partners hold 30 seats.

One seat is vacant and PBS has seven seats. - Star
